By working collaboratively with the local community, we create powerful, new theatre that tackles real-world issues. UNIQUE YOUTH THEATRE

Unique Youth Theatre offers a range of performing arts activities for young people aged 7-16. All sessions are united by a common theme, decided on annually in response to world events & ongoing conversations with the community. Participants develop brand new theatre performed on professional stages annually.

DYCE School workshops give children & young people the opportunity to safely engage in a dialogue of empathy and critical thinking based on themes that acknowledge world events through fun & interactive drama sessions led by skilled facilitators. THE STORK PROJECT

The Stork Project harnesses the power of performing arts to help migrants navigate the challenges of adjusting to life in a new country. By bringing people together to work towards a shared goal, the project fosters a sense of belonging, connection, and hope within the community.

TRAINEE PROGRAM

Training to young people aged 16-25 interested in developing participatory performing arts skills. Opportunities range from voluntary to paid placements depending on experience. We aim to move volunteers into some paid positions within their first year with us. No formal qualifications required.

It’s 2025 — another year, another series of BIG events. It’s relentless, and our Unique Community wants to understand how we got here. This year, we aim to dig deep into the ROOTS of the issues.

All the groups across our service will explore the theme ROOTS from different perspectives. Like a jigsaw puzzle of performance, these pieces will come together to form a whole picture, shedding light on what we think is truly going on.

Our new Associate Artists Programme supports emerging artists on their journey as theatre makers and practitioners. Members of the programme work closely alongside our Artistic Director Nataliya Kharina, taking on projects that add to and embellish their collection of skills. We are thrilled to introduce Poppy Brian-Boys and Sammy Bacon - our first ever associate artists!

Age of Difference
Age of Difference

The ‘Age of Difference’ is a year-long season of participatory arts projects that will engage; children, young people, and the wider Brent community in an active dialogue about how they perceive identity. Over the year we will be testing whether true empathy can be found through the process of learning about each other and creating art collaboratively.

  • "My younger brother was part of backstage crew and it really helped him come out of his shell. His confidence wasn’t particularly great: his social skills needed building after Covid-19, he had just moved schools, and he found his new SEN school difficult to adjust to. Being part of backstage crew meant that he could interact with a whole new group of young people, which further developed his interpersonal skills. Backstage crew also helped him practice his writing and reading skills outside of the classroom - something that he has struggled with for many years; The positive reinforcement he got from being part of the group was felt across all parts of his life. The opportunities provided by Brent Youth Theatre are integral to young people’s lives, and being able to provide this for free ensures people from low-income households - such as my young brother - can benefit from services like this."
