WE’RE ALIVE
It’s the night before the war starts. The weather is unseasonably - cold. The Stork knows what’s coming. They go to sleep with ordinary dreams, they wake up to sirens. A Woman in a kitchen somewhere far away receives letters sent by trembling hands from every corner of the world. The kitchen, it feels the jolt of things going wrong over there. Letters she is used to but people she wasn't expecting.
They're all coming here.
Drawing on both the tragedy and humour of each participants' individual story, we hope this show will etch their experiences into history so that they are not forgotten.
But most importantly they want you to know that We’re Alive.
“On that day
The postbox was heaving
There was already an increase over the months preceding,
But back then the fingers that pressed onto the paper
wrote with temporary ink - pencil in fact
To be erased as soon as they realise it’s all been a hoax -
a cruel joke
The letters, they were steadily increasing
over the months preceding
but nothing like this..."
